Topologies of the house installation

This page explains important basics for the electrical interconnection of inverter, battery storage, switchable loads and manager primary meter for the purpose of energy management

Manager primary meter

The manager's primary meter is used to record the electrical power supplied to and taken from the household. It is not to be confused with the utility primary meter.

The following meters can be connected to the Manager flex as Manager primary meters:

TypeConnection
SOLARWATT AC sensorVia Ethernet. Integration into the network requires battery system (MyReserve or Battery flex)
KDK PRO380-S (bidirectional meter)S0 socket on Manager flex
Shelly 3EMvia WLAN

Position of the primary meter

The position of the primary meter indicates the installation location in relation to the feed-in point of the PV system and the consumers in the household.

Between grid and PV system (reference + feed-in meter)

The installation location of the primary meter is between the feed-in point of the PV system and the consumers on one side and the public power grid on the other.

Primary meters installed at this point must work in both directions, i.e. record both consumption and generation.

Devices supported by Manager flex for this setup variant:

  • Solarwatt AC sensor: Consumption and generation are recorded together by this device. Reading of this meter must be done via a battery system.
  • KDK PRO380-S: 2-direction three-phase meter, connection via S0 socket

Between PV system and consumers (consumption meter)

The installation location of the primary meter is between the PV system and the household consumers.

At this point, the primary meter may only record the electricity consumption. When installing S0 meters, ensure that they are installed in the correct direction. The feed-in resulting from the PV power generation is calculated by the Manager flex.

For this setup, only the use of an S0 meter is possible. Only the reference of the household must be recorded. A 1-direction S0 meter or the KDK meter can be installed here. If a KDK meter is used, only one S0 connection may be used in accordance with the installation direction.

These setups do not usually include battery storage.

Consumer

For the installation location in relation to the primary meter, a distinction is made between consumers installed on the house side and those installed on the grid side.

on the house sideConsumption recorded by the primary meter
on the grid sideConsumption not recorded by the primary meter

Consumers on the house side

Criterion: The installation location of the device is on the house side of the primary meter.

The consumption or generation of all devices installed on the house side is taken into account in the energy balance, regardless of whether there is a connection to Manager flex.

If the device is connected to the Manager flex, its specific consumption data can be visualized and the device can be included in the energy management.

Grid-side consumers

Criterion: The installation location of the device is between the power grid and the primary meter. The devices are recorded by the utility meter.

The consumption or generation of these devices is not recorded by the primary meter. In order for these devices to be included in the energy balance, they must be connected to the Manager flex.
