SOLARWATT is stepping up its presence in the UK with a range of initiatives to serve a market that the German manufacturer sees as increasingly receptive to advanced renewable energy technologies.
As the European market leader in glass-glass solar modules and a major supplier of electricity storage systems for homes and businesses, we’re taking a number of measures to bring the best in solar PV generation and storage to UK customers.
SOLARWATT has partnered with Fronius to provide a series of certified installation training sessions to solar professionals at the inverter manufacturer’s UK centre in Milton Keynes. This year we established a permanent display at the National Self Build & Renovation Centre, Swindon.
In Ireland and Northern Ireland, we have achieved great results through our partnership with BHC Distributors.
An ‘Education House’ at the Graven Hill in Oxfordshire, focused on the growing self-build and renovation market, is to feature a complete SOLARWATT PV and storage system for innovation-minded people. Intelligent systems are a big draw for the self-build market.
Meanwhile, installers are using SOLARWATT’s Experience app on their mobile devices to provide a 3D virtual showroom, with brochures, graphics, technical data, to show customers how their system will look and function once installed. This helps installers convert customers.
Visitors to the SOLARWATT stand G60 at Solar & Storage Live Solar & Storage Live at Birmingham NEC on 17-19 can tour our automated solar PV module factory in Dresden, using a virtual reality headset. Pol Spronck, head of a growing business area that includes the UK and Ireland, will update delegates on the company’s award-winning intelligent battery technology in a conference session.
And the company’s growing Facebook presence is proving a hit with installers and customers, raising awareness of our premium, German-made products – supporting partnerships and fulfilling business opportunities.
The modular design of our MyReserve smart batteries – shoebox-sized units to which more can be added as required – is ideal for larger estates with different-sized homes and varying requirements. Already, UK sales on MyReserve for 2019 are ahead 400% on last year.
We’ve been talking to local authorities and housing associations – they like the ‘system’ approach and appreciate its contrast to one-size-fits-all offerings.
Carbon emissions and climate change are a huge global concern and rightly so, as the UK is set to miss its 2020 renewable energy target. In May, the UK Parliament became the world’s first to declare a ‘climate emergency’. Solar PV is a big part of the solution.
Our systems encourage householders to assert genuine energy independence and self-sufficiency, controlling and limiting their own consumption, spending and carbon footprint – by buying less energy from the grid. That’s what people get with our modular systems.
The UK sales and technical team has led a rise in sales across our three core products this year, backed by 15 technical and administrative staff in The Netherlands and 300-plus support functions from headquarters in Dresden, Germany – all underlining the massive opportunity the UK market presents.
Our systems are popular with customers in Germany, France and Holland, and now Belgium and Scandinavia. Ireland has embraced SOLARWATT technologies, with a significant market share in PV modules and storage systems.
We intend to achieve similar market share in the UK, where our entire module portfolio is MCS-certified for installers.
Quality is a choice. The kWh price of a SOLARWATT PV system is lower than systems with a plastic foil backing. We’re not the cheapest but an investment that works efficiently for decades is better value than one that lasts 12 years then starts to degrade and decline.
As an independent provider, our emphasis remains firmly on quality, not volume; quantity, not size of business. This is underlined by 30-year product and performance guarantees on modules, 10 years for smart batteries and free FullCoverage insurance. These are popular because they demonstrate our confidence that SOLARWATT equipment will still be working effectively through the decades. Glass-glass modules can generate very efficiently up to 50 years!
