SOLARWATT donates 10,000 protective masks to the German Red Cross

Dresden, May 26th, 2020 – SOLARWATT, a leading German manufacturer of photovoltaic systems, is supporting the German Red Cross in Saxony and donated 10,000 protective masks to equip a mobile corona testing station. The official handover today by SOLARWATT CEO, Detlef Neuhaus, was attended by the Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, the Minister of Science, Sebastian Gemkow, and the Chairman of the Board of the German Red Cross Regional Association, Rüdiger Unger, at the State Chancellery in Dresden.

The Saxon State Chancellery arranged the contact between SOLARWATT and the German Red Cross in Dresden. The Red Cross employees will use FFP2 respirators in a new mobile COVID 19 test station, which will quickly increase regional test capacities targeted throughout Saxony.

The Dresden-based medium-sized company has so far managed to overcome the corona crisis on its own, without financial losses or reduced working hours. It is precisely against this background that the company and its employees are keen to help contain COVID-19. Detlef Neuhaus, CEO of SOLARWATT, underlines this: "We are happy about full order books and increasing sales. The stable and positive development now gives us the opportunity to give something back to the region and to support emergency services that are putting all their energy into the containment of the pandemic day after day".

SOLARWATT maintains close supply relationships with Asian countries. These good local connections were deployed immediately to establish contact with suitable manufacturers of medical materials. Rüdiger Unger, chairman of the board of the DRK regional association, is also pleased about these contacts: "We appreciate the effort that SOLARWATT has made to supply this large number of masks. Our own experience in recent weeks is that the procurement of protective equipment was, unfortunately remains, one of the greatest challenges in the Corona pandemic".

The Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, in turn is pleased to have established the link between the photovoltaic company and the DRK: "The provision of SOLARWATT's protective masks is a strong sign of solidarity. The expansion of test capacities is a decisive element in the fight against the corona pandemic. Thanks to this donation, the Red Cross staff will be protected in the best possible way during their valuable work in the mobile test station".

Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow adds: "In the meantime, people have gotten used to wearing a face mask in public to a certain extent, so that one almost loses sight of why the mask is necessary. The reason is an effective protection against infection. The mask donation from SOLARWATT helps the helpers of the German Red Cross to professionally equip a corona test station. Thank you very much for this."
