SOLARWATT GmbH expands its leadership in battery storage innovation and establishes a technology center "SOLARWATT INNOVATION"

  • SOLARWATT acquires technology start-up company e-Wolf, one of the top developers and providers of battery modules
  • The Dresden-based company secures access to first-class development technologies for battery and electronic applications
  • The employees of e-Wolf are integrated in the SOLARWATT team

SOLARWATT GmbH is expanding: The Dresden-based company is acquiring storage battery provider e-Wolf (Frechen near Cologne) and simultaneously founding "SOLARWATT INNOVATION" – a new technology center at the location. The goal is to expand the company's leadership in battery storage system innovation. The battery modules for the MyReserve storage battery will be produced in Frechen under the name "SOLARWATT MyReserve". For Detlef Neuhaus, Managing Director of SOLARWATT, the acquisition of the battery module developer and manufacturer represents a great opportunity: "The power of innovation in the battery storage market will continue to be essential in the future. With the incorporation of e-Wolf GmbH, whose first-class development team and the establishment of the new technology center, we are providing the right conditions for our MyReserve storage battery to continue to set industry standards in terms of technology and price," explained Neuhaus.

e-Wolf GmbH was established in part by the battery technology team of the Toyota Racing Formula 1 team. The technicians developed the highly complex K.E.R.S. hybrid technology ("Kinetic Energy Recovery System'") and the innovative control and battery management systems that accompany it. SOLARWATT GmbH has collaborated with the technological company since 2014. e-Wolf GmbH provided the battery modules of the SOLARWATT MyReserve battery storage system, which was distinguished with the renowned "ees Award" at Intersolar in June 2015 and has been available since October of the same year. "In addition to a technological leader, being a cost leader will be a top priority as battery technology continues to develop. The integration of e-Wolf is a crucial step forward and enables us to further reduce the cost of our battery storage systems in the long term," said Carsten Bovenschen, Head of Finance at SOLARWATT. The acquisition of the Frechen-based technological start-up company should be concluded at the end of April; all 19 employees will be retained.

SOLARWATT offers intelligent photovoltaic systems consisting of solar generator, energy management system and storage battery for local energy supply of private homes and small business with electricity and heat. The Dresden-based solar pioneer positioned the revolutionary MyReserve storage battery in the market this past year. The modular configuration of the battery system offers an outstanding degree of efficiency of 96 percent "Round-trip in best point" and 93 percent in full cycle.
